Franco Lazzarino recently discovered a bug in Digest::SHA1 that seems to be limited to Mac OS installs. He's demonstrated an issue on Ruby 1.8.7 patch level 174 where hashes appear to fail on some files larger than 512MB.
Daniel Azuma and the team at GeoPage just recently released RGeo. RGeo is a gem for working with points, lines, and polygons on coordinate systems and across spacial projections.
